I’m not afraid of the headlights any more I think I asked them to swallow me whole Side of the road, face to floor Loose hands on tarmac, ran out of control This version of me, different now Stuck to the ground, dying to stay out Nowhere better to be, surrounded by a crowd No air in my lungs, unable to shout Different face Same streets Same heart Different beats Different body Same night Same bones Different sight Kicked to the side, smashed on the curb Broken glass in the bus lane, but nothing was heard People pass by, a casual glance Push myself up, blood in my hands Crack in the ribcage, bleed on the brain Dazed and confused with no victory to claim another dog just walking the street Hungry for something looking to eat Different face Same streets Same heart Different beats Different body Same night Same bones Different sight

A Vivid Study of Human Violence

Violence
/ˈvʌɪəl(ə)ns/
noun

- Behaviour involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something.

- Strength of emotion or of a destructive natural force.

A couple of months ago I read an article reflecting on Chuck Palahniuk’s 1996 Novel Fight Club and the parallels it draws between ‘classic’ violence (as we stereotypically know it) and a more abstract, structural idea of violence (for instance the potentially destructive nature of social norms).

I took a step back, reflected on the types of destruction I witnessed around me whether it was direct, or abstract and created these 4 tracks; each inspired by a different interpretation of violence.

Austere
A desolate, emotionless seriousness wielded like an object, used to inflict blunt force trauma.

Claustrophobia (Thursday Night In The City)
Bury everything under whatever you can get your hands on.

Sick Hearted
Internally nationalism is pride, externally nationalism is a clenched fist.

Headlights (Ft. Abi Carr)
The choice to be idle and witness destruction is nonetheless, a choice.

This EP was a way for me to find a sound that feels like mine as well as turn internal restlessness and complaints about the physical world into... something; however I couldn’t have created it alone. Thank you to Peter Mills, Matthew Howard and Kobi Hartley for putting up with all of the demos I have been sending them over the years, telling my tracks were shit and constantly pushing me, Abi Carr for her amazing vocals on Headlights, Sian Devine for proofreading/critiquing my writing, Fiona Stuart for her constant support and Pedro Sanchez for challenging the way I think, produce and create.
